M.O.D.

‘Mound of Dirt’ (MOD) is a site specific dance work with dance artist Billie Cook and her artistic team, in creative partnership with artist Kate Cullity of Taylor Cullity Lethlean (TCL) award winning landscape architecture firm.

Inspired to access unconventional performance spaces and create dance work on a building site, MOD takes inspiration from universal themes such as birth, and coming from the earth, notions of death and rebirth, what is it to be remembered, what’s imprinted, left behind, lives on and is handed down.  MOD is a fresh collaboration that opens up a conversation between artist and designers; it is a cross-disciplinary project that aims to merge two distinctly different yet related spatial practices of landscape architecture and dance.

MOUND OF DIRT STAGE ONE BILLIE COOK AND GABRIELLE NANKIVELL
Billie and Gabrielle worked together throughout January 2012 developing a movement practice in specific skills and techniques of elevation, jumping, and floor work.  Based at Leigh Warren and Dancers studio’s stage one prepares Billie to apply techniques learnt from this studio research with a large mound of dirt on site, and will bring it into an outdoor environment.
